SPAN is celebrating 50 years of conversation with our readers, building a bridge from America to India. In this spirit, we are inviting artists, photographers, writers, filmmakers—professionals or amateurs—to reflect on the relationship between our nations. Submit your entry by September 1, 2010.

 

 

SPAN Cover Art Contest

Design a SPAN cover using photographs, paintings, graphic arts, images of sculptures, installations or mural art. Submit your entries to ezinespan@state.gov by September 1st 2010.

Themes:

  • - Entrepreneurship
  • - U.S.-India Science or Technology cooperation
  • - U.S.-India Relations
  • - Education
  • - Democracy
  • Prizes:

  • - An iPad
  • - The winner’s artwork will appear on the cover of SPAN magazine.
  • - The winner will be invited to spend a day at SPAN's Art Studio.

  • Size
    Guidelines

    All submissions must be jpg or tif files (8x10, 300 dpi tif file) and include the artist’s full name, e-mail address and contact information. Submissions must contain details of the medium. The artist is welcome to send along a short textual description of the work.

     

    Rules

  • - Contest is open to Indian citizens aged 12 and over.
  • - Employees of the U.S. government and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate.
  • - The entry must be completely original work of the entrant. Entries containing any plagiarized material will be disqualified.
  • - No copyrighted material can be used.
  • - Winners will be required to give rights for publication of their work on U.S. Embassy Web sites and in print publications.
  • - One entry per person.
  • - Finalists will be asked to submit their original artwork for further evaluation.

    SPAN Article Contest

    Write an article for SPAN's e-zine. Submit your entries to ezinespan@state.gov by September 1st, 2010.

    Theme: Together We Can—What can the U.S. and India accomplish together?

    Prizes:
    - An iPad to the first prize winner.
    - Online U.S. magazine subscriptions to second and third place winners.
    - Winners’ articles will be published in the SPAN e-zine.

    Rules

  • - Articles should be between 600 and 800 words.
  • - Contest is open to Indian citizens aged 12 and over.
  • - Employees of the U.S. government and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate.
  • - The entry must be completely original work of the entrant. Entries containing any plagiarized material will be disqualified.
  • - No copyrighted material can be used.
  • - Winners will be required to give rights for publication of their work on U.S. Embassy Web sites and in print publications.
  • - One entry per person.
  • - The entries should include writer's full name, e-mail address and phone number.

    SPAN Video Challenge

    Make a one minute video focusing on U.S.-India relations, upload it on your Youtube account and send the link to ezinespan@state.gov by September 1st, 2010.

    Theme: U.S. and India Connections

    Prizes:
  • - An iPad
  • - The winning video will be featured in the SPAN e-zine.

  • Rules

  • - Videos should be one minute long.
  • - Contest is open to Indian citizens aged 12 and over.
  • - Employees of the U.S. government and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate.
  • - The entry must be completely original work of the entrant. Entries containing any plagiarized material will be disqualified.
  • - No copyrighted material can be used.
  • - Winners will be required to give rights for posting their video on Embassy web channels and for the screening at U.S. Embassy events.
